dearest beloved clarinet, life is like a sine graph =).jpg)
the past 20 months have been eventful eh? indeed. as i give you a final last polish, lets take a walk down memory lane..
january 2006 was our first meeting. i was taking study leave from mus'art (haha, i am almost on permanent study leave the whole year round anyway lol) and you were assigned to me. a normal r13. nothing special, not that good, not that bad. i didn't really fancy you that much cause at that time i still held on to my rc prestige from crescent. at sec4, mrs chua said i should loan you out to keep in contact with my clarinet skills after graduating from crescent band. and indeed you proved to be a great companion.
sec4 work was crazy. homework, tests, assignments. but still i slipped back to mus'art to play. hahaha. just after i graduated from crescent band, i had my braces on. you helped me adapt to my horrible braces and i learned eventually to play without cigarette paper (after many many many months haha). i practiced with you once in a while, but sometimes very seldom until you collected DUST omg, i was so sad ): so sorry i couldn't find time then to practice.. but the least i could do was to clean the dust off you :\ sniff.
back to mus'art, i managed to convince my parents to let me join back after chinese Os in june :) yay haha. my first official performance with you was at national band competition on 15 july 06 at vch. thinking of all the fun we had during practices leading up to the competition, how fun it was to play xenia sarda and first suite in Eb.. makes me long to relive those times. those times, having so much fun with the pasir ris gang: hansel, leeyen, deanna, weijie, lihong and xinhui. plus it was like a huge project, with a concert coming right up on the following day at mus'art rhythme et blues concert on 16 july 06 at sch. it was such a great week, so fun and so memorable. sunday practices, additional weekday practices, seeing all of the pasir ris gang so often. playing on the first day of nbc just cause we had concert the next day had quite a special feeling. participating in open division was an awesome experience. meeting up for lunches/dinners the whole week leading up to comp and concert. performing the two comp pieces beautifully felt great. what a wonderful memory. and then our concert the next day, playing rhapsody in blue! whao. and petite suite, gosh. and of course other nice pieces. memories, memories. and then rushing to vch to hear our results for nbc! haha! getting GOLD for nbc! tj getting 88.14%, rj getting 85.59% and mus'art getting 85.29%. like omg, 0.3% away from second placing but still a gold and we're happy all right :) and off to funan kfc for supper, on both nights. what a brilliant week it was.
thinking that it would be the end of my musical career till after Os, i trudged back to school work.. but in less than a month i was back in mus'art again! for some national day variety show next to the cc, haha singapore experience and some other national songs? movies with the pasir ris gang (helen the baby fox & lakehouse), plus fireworks show! wow. and then our first esplanade performance together was the beautiful sunday on 13 aug 06, the fabulous golden hits! playing in the esplanade was great like the past few times. finally it was the end, and i had to settle down to mug.
a small performance in school before o levels came and went - farewell assembly. performing with my fellow meppers (ostinato!) for 'if we hold on together' and 'that's what friends are for' never made music more meaningful. piano, bass guitar, drumset, clarinet, vocal.. where can you get a more warped group of musicians? haha. and after Os back i was in mus'art! preparation for the upcoming concert in 2007, west side story and danceries! whao did anybody mention i was crazy in love with danceries that time! i was so damn happy. had an outdoor performance on 10 dec 06 at the courtyard which wasn't very interesting but oh well. reuniting with the pasir ris gang with new member baohui! more movies (night at the museum & eragon), chalets and hotel stays! and most importantly, seeing my transition into a jc band, acjc band. growing with me, rising our standards, learning so many new things. and of course new people, new friends!
next performance, mus'art unauthorised entry on 3 feb 07 at vch! danceries and west side being the highlights, the rest just random songs with the secondary schools. it felt great playing danceris and having so many new friends from ac band to come and support me. so touched :) after that, yet another beautiful sunday animaniacs! on 15 apr 07 at esplanade. played anime songs and soundtracks, quite interesting repetoire. and finally, the last mus'art performance, 15 july 07 at vch. not too excited though, quite bored with the repetoire and not exactly motivated to play somehow. thinking about it, exactly a year ago, it was nbc. how nostalgic.
of course, not forgetting non-mus'art performances: crescent musical evening where i played the special cornet/clarinet parts for to the stars!, acjc band muse at esplanade, acjc band SYF 07 :D, acjc band muse at vch, other acjc function performances.
well, my dear clarinet, serial number 440366 barrel B660, i shall remember you forever. these 20 months wouldn't have been, well, these 20 months, without you. all the fun i had in mus'art and in ac band, these memories i'll definitely hold close to my heart, especially nbc and SYF 07. i'll never forget how hard we practiced together, how we pulled through difficulties together, how we grew together. sorry for all the times i accidentally hit your bell or knocked you somewhere, sorry for all the times i neglected you. thank you for all the times you were there as my companion, thank you for letting me make music with you.
now that i've finally finished polishing you, its time to say goodbye. thank you for everything. i hope perhaps one day we shall meet again in mus'art. do take care, and i hope your next owner (if you do get one) will treat you equally well or even better. you were a great pal, and i wish you could stay longer. i'll miss you a lot, and i'll never forget how much you have impacted on my life. thank you, and goodbye.

feeling kinda silly again, but this is what i usually do when i part with my instrument.
just that this clarinet has been with me for the longest time yet, and its so hard to let go now..
20 months isn't a short time, and the fact that it is so seasoned (by previous users and myself) makes it even harder to let go.
oh well, good things have to end, loaned instruments have to be returned.
i'll be returning it to mus'art tmr cause they're having a stock check soon. (the first one in eons!)
and i doubt i'll be getting it back now that i have my own clarinet.
aye, so hard to let go.. so many memories, so many emotions.
i'll really miss it very much.
